Day 8 – Deep in the Heart…

Carlsbad, NM to San Antonio, TX

Yee haw .. Texas here we come!

We hit the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico before jumping the border into Texas.

I was a little weary about walking down into this cave, the smell (bat and bird poop) along with the musty cave funk was enough to turn anyone away BUT, the allure of the cave pulled and we delved down. A mile and a half to be exact. The cave, once filled with water and for the last 250 million years after running dry has become home to slow, mineral mounting stalagmites and stalactites. In these caves you realize how small you are and how awesome Mother Nature truly is.

And… above ground.

We couldn’t help but to stop in Pacos, TX for Lunch at a place that claimed to have the World Famous Tamales.

Tonight we landed in San Antonio, TX. We’re excited to be entering the south and we’re ready to explore San Antonio, Austin and Houston in the next 4-5 days. First item of business… a COWBOY HAT!

I can smell the sweet tea and BBQ… I even heard that Texas has it’s own Graceland!? Whooo hoo!
